The d-BRU has a translational research expertise in the field of restorative and regenerative biomaterials as well as dental implants :
- In vitro properties and characterization
- Preclinical evaluation to assess biocompatibility, regenerative performance and integration
- Clinical trial designs, management and online monitoring
- Computational modeling
The Research Unit is subdivided into two main research fields;
- The Restorative Biomaterials division directed by Prof. Amélie Mainjot
- The Regenerative Biomaterials and Implants Division directed by Prof. France Lambert

The Restorative Biomaterials division develops in vitro as clinical research (in close collaboration with the Dpt of Dental Sciences, University Hospital Center) related to biomaterials for prosthetic and restorative dentistry. The division focuses on:
- Dental ceramics, particularly zirconia
- Innovative resin-composite blocks for CAD-CAM applications
- CAD-CAM processes
- New minimally invasive protocols using innovative biomaterials
- Biocompatibility and soft tissue attachment on dental and implant prostheses materials
The Regenerative Biomaterials and Implants Division focuses on:
- The development of innovative biomaterials for intra-oral bone and soft tissue regeneration. Particularly, calcium phosphate based materials synthesized by 3D printing technologies.
- The understanding of how materials, manipulations and surgical technique can influence peri-implant soft tissue integration both at the preclinical and clinical level.
- The evaluation of novel clinical techniques and protocols using regenerative biomaterials or dental implants (in close collaboration with the Department of Periodontology and Oral surgery).
- The study of biomaterial or biological product influence in compromised bone healing models, mainly, diabetic and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ).
